The small public square at the meeting of the laneways provides a space of interaction and engagement. A system of denial and reward was developed to take user’s on an journey with constantly shifting perspective with use of ‘warm’ timber materials and glimpses of greenery as an incentive to move through the sequenstial spaces. White brick and herringbone pavers were ustilised in conjunction with graffitti to blend with Burleigh Head’s unique genius loci. I found this project to be very eye opening in terms of the philosophy behind architecture. The assignment was accompanied with readings of Christopher Alexander’s “A Pattern Language”. I found the writting to be inspiring of my concept and I developed an interest in phenomenology in architecture and engaging the human senses rather than just having a functioning form sitting on the landscape.
